Cheaper and disruptive, or pricier and seamless
Moving during business hours is cheaper and simpler to book, but it leaves part of the office offline while crews work. Schedule the move for nights or weekends and the disruption disappears — staff show up Monday to a completed space rather than weaving around moving crates. The trade-off is price: off-hour rates run higher, and you'll likely need to coordinate separately with building management for access outside normal times.
Timing and access — not the work itself
The physical work itself is no different from a daytime commercial move. Only the timing and building access change. Off-hours labor rates typically run higher than standard daytime rates, so the same job costs more in labor even though the packing and transport are identical. Access is the other variable: many office buildings lock down after standard hours, restrict freight elevator use outside a posted schedule, or require security to be present for after-hours contractor access. All of that needs to be arranged with property management in advance — it can't be assumed.
Splitting the difference
Some companies land between an all-weekend relocation and a fully disruptive weekday job by phasing the move. They relocate one department or floor at a time, usually timed to each unit's own tolerance for downtime. The after-hours premium gets stretched across a longer schedule, yet the business stays largely up and running the whole way — that continuity is usually the deciding factor for organizations that can't afford to shut down entirely for a weekend.
